BNG welcomes continued funding for renewal in NewcastleGateshead
Bridging NewcastleGateshead (BNG) has welcomed the Government announcement of £28.8m in continued funding for housing market renewal in NewcastleGateshead. The funding, which is for the period 2009-2010, will enable the BNG partnership to continue its work to regenerate communities in the heart of NewcastleGateshead.  Jim Coulter, Chair of BNG said: “This funding is excellent news for regeneration in NewcastleGateshead, and it demonstrates the Government’s continued commitment to our programme.  “The announcement also guarantees our baseline funding for 2010-2011, which is welcomed as it will enable us to continue to plan for the future. “We have already made excellent progress on the ground, with an extensive improvement programme in Bensham & Saltwell, new homes in Walker Riverside and exciting plans moving forward for Scotswood. “We will continue to work closely with residents across our area to bring long-lasting transformational change to neighbourhoods.” The allocation will enable BNG to continue its programme which, as well as work to improve and develop housing, also includes work around establishing housing options to support buyers into home ownership. The funding announcement comes shortly after the Government announced £4.7m of Growth allocation for NewcastleGateshead for 2009-2011. The Growth programme is being delivered by the BNG partnership, alongside the Renewal work.
